Side note: Pro Tools 12.6 has a feature which automatically creates a new playlist when a clip is recorded over in the main playlist. Just drag the chorus takes onto the same playlists as the verse. There are other ways to create new playlists, but using this workflow keeps the main playlist labeled “Vocal 1” or “Lead Guitar” and not “Vocal.01.23.” It also doesn’t mess up other areas of the track, like if you’ve already recorded and comped several takes in the verse, but you’re working on the chorus now. This will leave one copy in the main playlist and a second wherever you’ve dragged it. Repeat for every take.įor bonus points, use opt + drag while moving the clip. Run another take and drag the new clip to the bottom most lane again. This will automatically create a new playlist named after that clip.
